Music fans love Spotify; the catalog is huge, it’s free to use, and easily integrated with social media. It doesn’t take a profound leap in logic to understand why you should be promoting your music there. One of the most interactive ways to promote your music on Spotify is by creating a collaborative playlist. [See below for an example of a Spotify playlist embedded in this blog post]. It’s kinda like one of those mix-tape clubs I once read existed back in the 80’s where each member added one song to a cassette and then mailed it to the next person in the group—only with Spotify, it’s instant—so everyone can contribute at once! A collaborative Spotify playlist gives you an opportunity to promote your music in a new, social way (since Spotify is integrated with Facebook). Rather than shouting “Listen to my music on Spotify” every few hours, try one of the following: 1) Create a themed playlist- Include SOME of your band’s music (like,… one or two tracks to get things started), and then share the playlist with fans. Ask them to add their favorite music that fits the theme (genre-based, local acts, a specific mood, etc.) 2) Ask your fans to make a “tour mix” for you- They add the songs; you promise to listen to the mix while on the road. You can even comment on each song on Twitter or in a tour diary. 3) Take cover-song requests- But do it by asking fans to add a ...

Did you know that NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) i.e. The GRAMMY’s has an office in Texas? As a chapter member, I want to spread the word about this wonderful organization and all it has to offer musicians in our chapter – including Texas and Oklahoma. While the GRAMMY brand is recognized all over the world, most people (even music industry veterans) are unaware of the many ways The Recording Academy is involved in the lives of professionals and fans alike. The Texas Chapter of The Academy wants you to be aware of how membership in our organization can benefit you, our state, and the music we love so much. Please take a moment to read how The Recording Academy is already in service to musicians in so many ways. Established in 1957, The Recording Academy is an organization of musicians, producers, engineers, and recording industry professionals that is dedicated to improving the cultural condition of music and quality of life for its makers. Did you know that having Academy membership *may give you the ability to vote in the GRAMMY Awards, something they encourage all artists to take advantage of, BUT you must be a member in order to vote in the awards process. An added value is that you will also be invited to attend the awards show – music’s biggest night – in Los Angeles annually (and at a discounted rate!) Often the only thing artists know about the Academy is the GRAMMY Awards. ...

Classically Trained Virtuoso Reuel and Veteran Spin Master J.D. Arnold Matched Musical Talent at The Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas Those in attendance on Saturday April 14 at The Bayou Music Center (formerly known as The Verizon Theater) were already energized by veteran spin master J.D. Arnold when the 24 year old “mod-class” pianist who goes by the single name of Réuel took the stage. Playing the custom Réuel Regal Piano the young virtuoso masterfully improvised over J.D Arnold’s music selections. Lasers sliced through the dense foggy air and lights flashed as Arnold and the classically trained pianist Réuel seemed to become one as they seamlessly connected with each others music. The two talents were so perfectly matched that without looking it was difficult at times to tell if the well mixed sound was coming from the turntables or the piano. The Bayou Music Center has become the perfect spot for DJ events like the one that happened April 14th. The Bayou Music Center recently hosted such star DJ performers such as Deadmau5, Skrillex and Bassnectar. Not only did the music between the two talents match up but also the high gloss black Dj booth with bright red trim was thoughtfully paired up with the high gloss black finish of The Réuel Regal Piano. The piano which sat on a over sized oriental rug glistened as it was hit by the lights. The richly finished 18 karat gold legs sparkled with the energetic music that was created as Réuel’s ...

Part one of many. Two days ago in casual conversation I recommended to Reuel that he should try a mash-up of his Modern Classical (Modclass) style and seek out local dubstep producers and artists for an upcoming CD release. The styles are so similar; improvisational and intense, with hard and powerful rhythms and vivid musical imagery. So this guy dons a hoodie, turns on his webcam and proceeds to push his Yamaha™ to the limit, black and white keys pounding to the poly-rhythmic musical energy of Skrillex- 2011 MTV EDM Artist of the Year, and 3-time Grammy Award Winner. There will be more videos to come, we promise. Reuel has even made the song available for free MP3 download, check out the video below and join our mailing list for the free MP3 download.
